What is period blood made of? Why is it sometimes darker than regular blood?
Menstrual blood is composed of lymph, water, red blood cells and endometrial cells (the lining of the uterus) - pretty standard. If you notice the blood is sometimes a little browner at the end of your cycle, that is usually because it took longer to leave the uterus. The longer it stays in the body, the darker it can become.
